Service Description
This course has begun and registration is closed. Look back in November for new beginner and intermediate classes beginning in January! A course for students with experience who want guidance choosing colour palettes and creating expressive paintings that are all their own! This course focuses on developing painting skills beyond the reference photo, including how to balance values, compose your image, and choose effective colour relationships. We'll be working primarily from photographs and completing studies and colour exercises before final paintings, while developing more advanced colour theory and colour control. Subjects include landscape, still life, and botanicals. Lessons covered in this course: - A more subtle understanding of tone: High-Key and Low-Key palettes - How to use colour more expressively and intentionally. - How to capture simple shapes and values initially and quickly - Making decisions about colour and composition that are beyond the reference photo - Exercises focused on experimentation and freedom that lead to larger, more intentional works. - Building painting intuition and eliminating the fear of beginning. This course is for intermediate oil painters. If you have completed the Intro to Oil series at the studio, please register! If you have oil painting experience outside of the studio, please be in touch with Jaye before registering. I'd love to answer your questions! Email me at jaye@yellowbirdschool.ca.
