Art is for everyone.
Art schools and classes can be intimidating. Often you are put in a class “for beginners” where most of the participants have experience already, and the instructor seems to assume a lot.
Yellowbird School of Art has classes for the absolute beginner. We start slow, then build momentum.
I’ve spent 12 years developing curriculums that build slowly and supports artists, while incorporating art school lessons about the bigger picture of what art can be- beyond the skill. The truth is though, it is really hard to be creative on your own and develop confidence without building traditional skills first. Think about composing music without first learning what the notes are or practicing existing songs. Seems impossible? Visual art works in the same way. We start with the basics here, learning how to see, learning about materials, techniques, and theory.
When you look at more art, talk about more art, and practice actually making art, you learn more about it. I aim to educate people about the art world so they can feel a part of it, instead of intimidated and disconnected from it. I want the average person to feel like the art world can be their world, because through art we find connection to others and ourselves. We can recognize our collective humanity in each other’s artwork,
