Maximum 10 students to allow for 1:1 mentorship This in-depth course for both beginner painters and those looking for a refresher. Learn a step-by-step approach to completing a painting while exploring paint handling, brushwork, light, colour mixing and colour theory, composition, and more. Referencing both historical and contemporary works of art and approaches, we’ll begin with still life to learn the basics and then move on to botanicals and landscape, completing paintings on paper, canvas, and panel, learning art theory, terminology, and visual vocabulary along the way. This course includes a syllabus, handouts, and optional weekly homework projects. The studio uses specific and high-quality paint and brushes to lessen student frustration and ensure accurate colour mixing. Note that we teach oil painting without turpentine, mineral spirits, or other substances that create fumes. The completion of this course allows students to progress to all other intermediate oil painting class options including: painting animals, landscape painting, portrait painting, and more. Photos are actual student work from this course. *Please note that paying monthly still requires registration and payment for the entire 10 class series, and that there are no refunds for missed classes.
