Tween Multi-Media Fine Art Camp

Service Description

Half-day camp runs from 9:00am-12:00noon from Monday August 24th -Friday August 28th, 2026 Ages 9-12 $265, all materials included. Maximum 10 students. Learn about the fundamentals of art-making while exploring a variety of media and processes. This is a camp for kids bursting with creativity and able to engage in focused making. This exploratory camp is based in drawing practice and branches into linocut printmaking, cyanotype (sun-printing), collage, and abstract painting, all incorporating visual art fundamentals like composition, negative space, value, scale relationships, and colour theory. Students learn techniques and vocabulary from an educated teaching artist (me! Jaye!) doing live demos and giving one-on-one suggestions, instruction, problem solving, and cheerleading. Students will be linocut printing in multiple colours and on paper, greeting cards, and their choice of bag to take home. They will be making cyanotypes on paper and fabric, collage on wood panel, and completing one large abstract painting on canvas. All materials used are of high quality so students can reach their full potential! The camps also focus on how to honestly look at and evaluate art, the importance of "imperfections" and differences in art, and how everyone's unique voice comes through in their work (great practice for small perfectionists!) We look at many historical and contemporary artist references and look at our own work as a group to encourage artistic confidence. Introverted or "shy" children are never forced to participate in group discussions. Each day includes 2 art making sessions with a mid-morning break where we will walk to Millenium Park.
